Razor Ground Force Electric Go Kart Review – Battery Powered Racing for Kids

June 26, 2014 By Kristian

Full Price: $299.99

Top Speed: 12 mph

Age Range: 8 years+

Use Per Charge: 45 minutes

Charge Time: 4-6 hours

Why Am I Reviewing the Razor Ground Force Electric Go Kart?

The Razor Ground Force Electric Go Kart is a very popular battery powered racing machine for kids and this is my fully independent review of it.

Since I am 39 years of age, I have never actually driven one myself, but I have seen them in action and carried out extensive research about their pros and cons.

Sadly, when I was a kid we had to make do with constructing Go Karts out of old pieces of wood and various other junk items such as discarded stroller and bicycle wheels. It was fun (if a little frustrating), but I would have gone totally wild for one of these electric Go Karts if they had been around at the time.

In order the satisfy my desire to get behind the wheel of an electric vehicle, I had to make do with occasional visits to fairgrounds so that I could have a go on the bumper cars – not quite the same thing but better than nothing.

Those 5 minutes of bumper car action were very enjoyable, but to be able to drive around for 45 minutes in my own battery powered Go Kart would have been the ultimate thrill for me as an 8 year old boy and I am very jealous of kids today and the fact that they have so many more great options for having fun on 4 wheels.

Not only does it drive well, but it looks great too.

The Best Features of the Razor Ground Force Electric Go Kart

The Razor Ground Force Electric Go Kart has many great features (check out the full specifications below), but I think that the best features are:

  • Top Speed of 12 mph
  • Variable Speed Throttle
  • Long Use Between Charges
  • Short Battery Charging Time
  • Durable Steel Frame

#1 Top Speed of 12 mph & Variable Speed Throttle

The high torque motor allows you to reach speeds of up to 12 mph using the variable speed throttle. The throttle is hand-operated as is the brake mechanism. You simply use your right hand to adjust the speed of the Go Kart and your left hand to operate the lever brake to slow it down more quickly or bring it to a complete stop.

This sort of speed is pretty standard for this age group when it comes to electric ride toys and I think that it fast enough to provide a kid with a great deal of excitement without causing their parents too many safety concerns.

At this speed, you can be pretty comfortable that they will be able to manoeuvre the Go Kart easily and safely and bring it to a stop quickly if the need arises.

Having said that, I would always advise you to ensure that your child wears a safety helmet whilst using the Kart. It doesn’t have to be a racing-car style helmet – a bike or scooter helmet will be sufficient to protect the most vulnerable parts of their head.

Not only does the Go Kart have a good top speed, but it also accelerates away at a reasonable rate thanks to the high torque motor. There is nothing more frustrating than having to wait ages for your electric vehicle to struggle up to its top speed.

Finally, although it’s not entirely silent, the motor on the Ground Force Go Kart is pretty quiet – something that your neighbours will be relieved about.

#2 Long Use Between Charges

One of the biggest problems with electric ride toys is that you can spend hours and hours charging the batteries and then only get a few minutes of use out of them. So, you either end up with a very frustrated child on your hands or having to spend loads more money buying extra batteries to use whilst the others are charging.

At about 45 minutes per session, the Ground Force Go Kart has a very respectable length of use between charges. In terms of distance travelled, this is long enough to drive continuously for about 7-8 miles before the battery needs to be re-charged.

#3 Short Battery Charging Time

Many other types of electric ride toy come with batteries that take about 8-10 hours to re-charge between uses. Again, this waiting time is another big problem that is sure to annoy the average child when they want to use their favorite scooter or Go Kart more than once in any given day.

Not only does the Ground Force Go Kart go for 45 minutes between charges, but when you do need to recharge the batteries it only takes about 4-6 hours. This means that your child can have a go in the morning, then put the battery onto charge, have lunch, and then get back out onto the Go Kart for an afternoon session too.

#4 Durable Steel Frame

When you are spending $200+ on a Go Kart you want it to last.

The Ground Force is manufactured with a durable steel frame to greatly improve its chances of surviving the sort of vibrations, bumps and scrapes that you would expect of this type of vehicle.

Watch the Ground Force Electric Go Kart in Action!

It doesn’t matter how much you read about the Razor Ground Force Electric Go Kart, the best way to find out whether or not it is the right toy for your child is to see it in action.

So here goes:

You Can Go Even Faster with Some Modifications!

Although Razor would probably advise against modifying the Ground Force Go Kart (and it would invalidate your warranty), if you or someone you know is skilled in this sort of thing you can make it perform even better than it does in it’s factory fitted state.

Just watch this video of a Modded Ground Force Go Kart:
