Power Wheels Lil’ Quad Barbie Review – Battery Powered Ride Toys for Girls

April 18, 2014 By Kristian

Made by: Fisher Price
List Price: $92.99
Top Speed: 2 mph
Age Range: 1-3 years

Lil’ Quad Barbie Overview

The Power Wheels Lil’ Quad Barbie is one of the most popular battery ride toys for girls on the US market today. It is one of a number of different “themed” Quads and is naturally a big favorite of little girls. As you would expect of a Barbie-themed toy, it is bright pink in color and the flowery decals clearly distinguish it from the standard model.

It is designed for kids aged between 1 and 3 years of age and its rechargeable 6V battery is powerful enough to reach a top speed of 2 mph on hard surfaces and cut grass. This is plenty fast enough without being too dangerous. Despite its slow top speed, you should still always ensure that your child is supervised whilst using the Lil’ Quad.

Don’t worry, your child won’t have to manage a complicated throttle since the Lil’ Quad’s forward motion is controlled by a simple push button mechanism. They just push the button to go and then release it to stop – it doesn’t get any more simple than that!

There are a number of very nice little features to make your child’s ride even more comfortable and convenient, including built-in footrests and a cargo rack on the back. Although the cargo rack is not huge, it is more than big enough to enable your daughter to carry a couple of her favourite toys as passengers!

Not only can your child make the Quad go forwards by pushing the throttle button, but they also get to steer it too.

The steering wheel doesn’t turn very sharply and so the Quad’s turning circle is quite large. This means that the Barbie Quad will work best if you can find a long straight stretch or a large area for your child to manoeuvre around in to avoid having to constantly turn them around or back them up out of corners.

Once your child has got over the initial exhilarating surprise of making the Quad move on their own without having to pedal or push it, they will very quickly learn to drive it confidently. They will be so proud of themselves for being able to drive like mummy and daddy in their own little private vehicle.

Please note that there is no reverse gear – you have to be realistic in you expectations and I wouldn’t consider this to be much of a problem with a vehicle designed for use by kids aged between 1 and 3 years. I suspect that they will find it enough of a challenge to co-ordinate the forwards throttle button and a little steering without having to worry about a separate reverse button.

The Lil’ Quad Barbie’s Key Features

  • Sporty ATV styling mixed with all the fun of Barbie decals
  • Built-in footrests
  • Easy push-button throttle
  • Power Lock brake system for a safe but exciting ride.
  • Cargo rack on the back
  • Rechargeable 6V battery & charger supplied
  • Rides low, so it’s easy for them to get on and off by themselves
  • 26.2 x 13 x 16.4 inches
  • Product weight: 15 lbs
  • Child weight limit: 40 lbs / 28 kgs
  • Backed by Power Wheels 1 year limited bumper-to-bumper warranty

Assembling & Maintaining the Lil’ Quad Barbie

You should be able to assemble the Barbie Quad in about 20 minutes – there really isn’t much to it.

The battery does not come pre-charged and you will need to charge it yourself for about 18 hours before the first use. Thereafter, the normal charging time is 14 hours between uses. If you are buying this as a present for your child, I suggest that you charge the battery before the “big day” if you want to avoid a spectacular toddler melt-down as they impatiently wait for the 18 hour charging period to finally come to an end!

Once charged, the battery ought to last a couple of hours before it needs to be recharged again. This is more than enough time for your child to have a good long play with it and you will have plenty of time to charge the battery overnight each day.

My Verdict

My 2 year old daughter would absolutely love the Lil’ Quad Barbie. Sadly, it is not possible to get hold of them in the UK at a sensible price and so she will have to make do with one of the less impressive and much less glamorous electric quads. It is about $20 more expensive that the standard model. You will have to decide for yourself whether or not the Barbie decals and bright pink color scheme is worth the paying the extra money for.

I have watched this Quad in action and seen the reaction of the little girls fortunate enough to receive one from Santa and I can assure you that your little princess will not be disappointed. It would make the prefect Christmas or Birthday gift for any girl aged between 1 and 3 years of age.
