The Razor Scooter Company
One of its most popular products is the Razor V-17 Scooter Helmet.
Although these helmets are most commonly bought for scooter use, they can also be used for other activities such as skating, skateboarding and cycling.
Why is the Razor V-17 Such a Great Helmet?
One of the best features of this helmet is that, unlike others, it protects all of the most vulnerable parts of your child’s head. Many helmets have a cut out section at the base of the skull despite the fact that this is one of its weakest parts.
Sensibly, the back of the Razor V-17 helmet extends right down just above the base of the neck and so provides very important protection to this weak area. I cannot stress enough the importance of buying a helmet that fully covers your child’s head.
If you have any doubt about the importance of this feature, then I suggest you read this user review from a mother whose son’s life was probably saved by this full head protection feature.
The helmet is also supplied with an extra padded insert, which helps you to get the correct fit for your child. You simply include the insert until your child’s head is big enough to fit the helmet without it. The side fastening strap means that you have absolutely no excuse for accidentally pinching the skin on your child’s chin when trying to do up their helmet.
Finally, if you live in a hot climate or your child needs to participate in an activity that requires them to wear the helmet for a lengthy period, the 17 top and side vents will be a great bonus since they will prevent their head from overheating. This is not just a matter of comfort. An overheating child can be a serious safety issue too.
What are the Options?
The V-17 Helmets come in 4 different sizes:
- Child = Fits head sizes 21 to 22.5 inches (ages 5 to 8)
- Youth = Fits head sizes 21.5 to 23 inches (ages 8 to 14)
- Adult = Fits head sizes 23 to 25 inches (age 14+)
[Please note that the Amazon website incorrectly states that the Child version is for heads measuring 21.5 to 22 inches!]
Obviously, the best way to select the correct sized helmet is to measure your child’s head rather than rely upon the age recommendations. There is no such thing as a standard sized 5 year old, but 22 inches is always 22 inches no matter how old your child is!
They also come in a number of different funky colors.
- thick outer shell
- EPS foam inner liner
- removable pads for easy cleaning
- 2 alternative foam inserts for different head sizes
- 17 vents allow enhanced air flow to keep your child cool
- adjustable side strap
- 2 year manufacturer warranty
