Age Range: 8 years+

Use Per Charge: 45 minutes

Why Am I Reviewing the Razor Dune Buggy?

Well, so far, all of the 4-wheeled electric vehicles that I have reviewed on my website have been designed for on-road use. These on-road vehicles are great, but what about if you want to drive around off-road?

Not everyone has free access to enough flat ground to use an electric Go-Kart with slick tires and, anyway, some kids just want to zoom around on grass and dirt instead of tarmac.

This Razor Dune Buggy Review is designed to fill this gap in the market and provides parents and kids with a very nice alternative battery powered vehicle to consider.

Introducing the Razor Dune Buggy

The Razor Dune Buggy is great little electric off-road vehicle that is capable of speeds of up to 9 mph or 10 mph, depending upon who you ask. Although it is primarily designed for off-road use, it also works well on flat surfaces too. Of course, if you do use it on tarmac the knobby tread on the tires is likely to wear down a lot sooner than if it is just used on grass or dirt.

The top speed of about 9 mph is plenty fast enough for your child to have fun without causing you to worry too much about their safety. The more cautious parents amongst you will be pleased to note that the buggy comes fitted with a lap belt restraint, a side roll cage, a safety flag, and rear brake discs.

Despite its relatively low top speed, I would always advise you to ensure that your child wears a safety helmet when driving the Dune Buggy. It doesn’t have to be a racing-car style helmet – a bike or scooter helmet will be more than sufficient to protect the most vulnerable parts of your child’s head.

It has a very respectable running time of 45 minutes per charge, which ought to be enough time for your child to have a good run out in it before the batteries need to be recharged. The one downside is that, unlike some other Razor electric vehicles, the battery charging time is about 12 hours. The Razor Drifter Kart and the Razor Go Kart by comparison can be re-charged in just 4-6 hours!

Of course, if your child “needs” to use the Dune Buggy more than once per day, you could always buy an extra set of batteries.

The Razor Dune Buggy’s Best Features

You can check out the full list of specifications below, but some of the Razor Dune Buggy’s best features include:

  • Top Speed of 9 mph
  • Variable Speed Throttle
  • Powerful High Torque Motor
  • Running Time of 45 Minutes
  • Durable Steel Frame

#1 Top Speed of 9 mph

As you can see from the videos towards the bottom of this page, the top speed of 9 mph is fast enough to provide a very enjoyable ride. It is not as fast as the Razor Go Kart or Drifter Kart (both 12 mph), but you probably don’t want as much speed when going off-road in any event.

#2 Variable Speed Throttle

Some cheaper electric vehicles for kids are fitted with a simple “full on / full off” throttle system. The Dune Buggy, however, comes with a variable speed hand-operated throttle that enables the driver to have a far greater degree of control.

They can speed up on the straights and slow down on the corners to provide a far better simulation of “real driving” than a simple single speed throttle mechanism.

#3 Powerful High Torque Motor

There is not much point in having a reasonable top speed if it takes an age for the buggy to reach it! Fortunately, the powerful 350W high torque motor that is fitted to the Dune Buggy is capable of getting up to top speed pretty quickly.

#4 Running Time of 45 Minutes

The running time of 45 minutes between battery charges is pretty good.

#5 Durable Steel Frame

If you are spending $300+ on an electric vehicle for your child, you want it to be solidly built and capable of lasting a long time.

The Dune Buggy is built around a durable steel frame that is capable or withstanding the sort of bumps and jolts that are to be expected with normal usage of this sort of vehicle.

It doesn’t matter how much you read about the Razor Dune Buggy, the only good way to find out whether or not it is the right toy for your child is to actually see it in action.
