TOP 5 ELECTRIC BIKES FOR KIDS

In this article, I am going review what I consider to be the Best Electric Bikes For Kids.

If you are looking to buy an electric bike for your kids, there are a lot of important factors for you to consider. How old is your child? How fast do you want them to be able to travel? How heavy / tall are they? How long do you want the electric bike to last? What is your budget?

Whatever your specific  requirements, there is a suitable electric bike for your child and the purpose of this article to simply to help you find it quickly and easily.

So, here are my top 5 electric bikes for kids.

Best Electric Bikes for Teenagers

#1 – Razor SX500 McGrath Dirt Rocket Electric Motorcross Bike

The SX500 McGrath Dirt Rocket by Razor is a high performance bike your teen is sure to enjoy. Measuring 24.5 x 36 x 56 inches, it is one powerful electric bike which holds as much as 175 pounds (lbs.). The SX500 is inspired by renowned motorcross rider, Jeremy McGrath, owing its style to Jeremy’s bike.

With large 14 x 16 inches tires, the SX500 is rugged and built for dirt. Your teen will enjoy kicking up to a top speed of 15 mph, with the help of its high torque motor.

Its large, 10 x 250 Supercross treaded pneumatic tires will allow your teen enjoy a balanced and smooth ride even when going uphill through rough terrains. The SX500 is recommended for teens 14 and older, but if your child is tall enough and sensible enough, they ought to be able to manage an SX500 perfectly well at a much younger age.

In fact, if you buy this electric bike for a 15 year old, they probably won’t get much use out of it before they outgrow it. If your child falls into that category, you might want to consider the MX650 bike instead (see below).

Here is a video of the SX500 being unboxed and assembled, and a video of the SX500 being ridden perfectly well by a child under 10 years of age.

#2 – Razor MX650 Rocket Electric Motorcross Bike

Another great bike from Razor, the MX650 Dirt Rocket Electric Bike gives your teen a wonderful off-road experience. It gets its “650” name from the 650-watt electric motor that powers it.

Once again, its knobby pneumatic tires (14 inches at the rear and 16 inches up front) make for maximum power transfer.

Talking about power, the MX650 is designed to carry up to a 220 pound limit. This is significantly more than the SX500 McGrath Bike mentioned above, and makes the MX650 a much better option for older teens (16 and above), or younger kids that are already large enough and mature enough to hand the extra size and power.

A combination of superb suspension, sharp brakes, excessive torque and a variable speed per input throttle makes this electric bike great for tricks through any terrain. If your advancing teenage biker is a lover of smooth bike tricks, they’ll have no problem practicing on the MX650.

Here are some videos of the MX650 in action.

Best Electric Bikes for Young Kids

#3 – Razor MX350 Dirt Rocket Electric Motorcross Bike

A miniature electric bike, the Razor MX350 is a smaller version of the MX650 and MX500 bikes.

It is a very similar style of bike, but is designed for much younger kids. This miniature dirt bike is a great introductory tool for your young ones – regardless of their level of performance. It sports an authentic dirt bike frame geometry and combines with a hand operated brake on the left to ensure the safety of its rider. If they know how to operate the handbrake on a normal pedal bike, then they shouldn’t have any problems riding an MX350.

The MX350 has dimensions of 44 x 24.5 x 31 inches, is suitable for riders weighing unto 140 lbs, and features a steel frame supported by large 12 inch pneumatic knobby tires.

Its gearless 24-volt electric engine speeds up to 12 mph on level surface.

The officials recommended age for the MX350 bike is 12 years+, but this is far too cautious in my opinion and experience. The MX350 is ideal for your 6 to 12 year old due to its low seating position. This little dirt bike promises you up to 10 miles of non-stop riding on a single charge, which is more than enough for most kids of this age.

Here is a video of a young kid doing some cool jumps on an MX 350 bike.

#4 – Razor MX400 Dirt Rocket 24V Electric Dirt Bike

The fourth Razor dirt bike on our list is also ideal for younger children between about 6 and 12 years of age, provided they weight no more than 140 lbs. The bike can kick up to 12 mph with an easy to use acceleration that takes you right to the top.

Stout and smallish, it is a safety-first bike that your young kids would appreciate while learning the ropes.

Speaking of safety, the MX400 is fitted with dual suspension and adjustable handlebars, making it a great fit for kids at all levels of progression. Your kid is sure to enjoy using this for up to 30 minutes at a time before recharging the battery.

It is basically the same as the MX350 bike, but in a different color.

Here is a video review of the MX400 bike.

Best Electric Bikes for Toddlers

#5 – Power Wheels Kawasaki KFX

Your pre-school age toddler who loves playing and exploring their grown up side is sure to love the Kawasaki KFX.

Fitted with four broad tires, it has a strong grip on hard surfaces, wet grass, gravel, mud and most rough terrain your kid might encounter. Again, with much younger kids with very little to no experience riding, safety is a huge concern. With its super comfortable seats and wide foot rest, your baby is in safe hands as this bike is built for safety.

Obviously, your toddler is very unlikely to be able to balance on 2 wheels and so the Power Wheels Kawasaki KFX is technically a Quad Bike rather than a Bike. It is, however, just as much fun to ride and is an excellent first introduction to the thrills of riding a battery-powered ride on vehicle.

The Kawasaki KFX is designed for kids with a weight not over 65 pounds.

Using a 12-volt battery, it has a speed cap of 3 mph in safe mode. That is just fast enough for your child to catch some fun and slow enough to have you within walking distance.

As they get more comfortable on the wheels, you can unlock the speed limit to a new maximum of 6 mph. Another safety feature is the automatic braking system designed to kick in when the child’s hand is off the throttle.

Here is a video of the Kawasaki KFX in action.

Best Kids Electric Bikes – My Verdict

Razor still leads the electric dirt bike category and it’s no surprise that we find them occupying most of the slots on this list. If you wish to prepare your kid for the race tracks or you just want them to catch some fun, electric dirt bikes are a great choice. Powered by battery juice, they are low maintenance compared to other fuel-powered bikes.

Note the weight limit for each bike and your child’s physical size and maturity when selecting which one is best for them.
