Razor EcoSmart Metro Review

November 13, 2022 By Kristian

Razor EcoSmart Metro – Introduction

The Razor EcoSmart Metro Electric Scooter is definitely not a toy and should not be bought as one or treated as one.

Unlike the Razor electric scooters that are specifically designed for kids, you won’t find any fluorescent bright color options or solid tires. Instead, the Razor EcoSmart Metro is a sensible and serious electric scooter that is specifically designed to be used by adults and older kids.

As a serious electric scooter that is designed for commuting and local errands, it comes with some very nice functional features, such as a storage basket, bike-sized pneumatic tires, and comfortable padded seat.

This scooter is also capable of a very respectable top speed and a useable range between battery recharges.

Within this review, I will be taking a closer look at the Razor EcoSmart Metro’s main features.

I hope that my Razor EcoSmart Metro Electric Scooter Review will help you to decide whether or not it is the best option for you or your older child.

Razor EcoSmart Metro – Main Features

#1 Rider Age & Weight Limits

The maximum rider weight for the Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter is 220lbs (100 kgs), which is exactly the same as one of their other adult electric scooters, the Razor E Prime 3. This is a generous upper weight limit and makes this scooter suitable for anyone that isn’t morbidly obese!

The recommended minimum rider age for the Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter is 18 years, which shows that this is an electric scooter that is genuinely designed for use by adults.

However, that does not necessarily mean that it cannot also be used perfectly safely by older kids if they are sufficiently mature.

You should definitely adhere to the maximum weight limit on this scooter since that is a serious safety requirement.

The minimum user age limit, however, is a little more flexible. You are the best judge of whether or not you or your older child is ready to be able to ride one of these scooters safely. Obviously, don’t buy one for your 6-year old. Your 16-year old will probably be perfectly fine though.

#2 Scooter Weight

The Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter weighs approximately 65 pounds, which makes it quite a bit heavier than the Razor E Prime 3.

It is made with a high-strength tubular steel frame rather than an aluminium frame.

You have to remember, though, that these are 2 very different types of electric scooter. The EcoSmart Metro comes with a seat, storage basket, much larger wheels, and a much more powerful motor. It is also not designed to be folded up and carried like the Razor E Prime 3, and so its weight is not so much of a relevant factor.

#3 Wheels & Tires

The Razor EcoSmart Metro scooter comes with a couple of air-filled 16-inch tires, much as you would expect on an electric bike or push bike.

This leads to a much smoother ride on road, sidewalk, dirt, and grass surfaces than the many electric scooters that come with one or two solid tires.

#4 Motor & Top Speed

The Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter is powered by high-torque, 500W chain-driven motor.

This motor is twice as powerful as the motor on the E Prime 3 scooter, but of course it needs to because of the extra weight that it needs to pull.

The maximum speed of the EcoSmart Metro is a very respectable18 mph, and this makes it much faster than the 10mph or so that you could get out of one of the Razor kids’ electric scooters.

This top speed makes the Razor EcoSmart an excellent choice for anyone who wants to be able to commute or carry out local errands within reasonable time frames. It is certainly not a sluggish scooter.

The EcoSmart Metro scooter is also rear-wheel drive, which makes it easier to steer and provides increased traction when the rider is seated.

#5 Battery Run Time / Range

In addition to a higher top speed, the Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter has a pretty decent range before needing to be recharged or before you need to switch over batteries.

You should get about 12 miles (40 minutes continuous use) out of a single charge, which makes it far more suitable for local trips and commuting than the previous models.

The battery runs on 36 Volts and a charger is supplied.

You can also buy extra batteries for the EcoSmart Metro scooter.

#6 Throttle Mechanism

The 500W chain-driven motor on the EcoSmart Metro scooter is activated through the use of a proper motorcycle-style twist-grip throttle mechanism. Unlike the push-button throttles found on many electric scooters, this twist-grip throttle gives you the feeling of genuine variability of speed.

#7 Braking System

The braking system is comprised of a lever hand brake, which is operated in the same way as the braking system found on a pedal cycle or motorcycle.

#8 Extras

As I have already mentioned, you also get a storage basket and luggage rack (detachable), and a comfortably padded seat.

The wide deck of the scooter is made from bamboo.

The Razor EcoSmart Metro in Action

Before you consider buying a Razor EcoSmart Metro electric scooter, you really need to see it in action and hear from those who have actually ridden one.
