Rugged yet delightful, your child can become a mountain ranger thanks to Peg Perego and the Polaris Ranger RZR 900. How amazing is that?
There isn’t much to rival the joy of watching your child having a great time playing outdoors in the fresh air. The Peg Perego Polaris Ranger RZR 900 is a really fun step-up from those electric toy cars that are designed to be drive by toddlers.
The toddler vehicles are necessarily very restricted in their speed and control mechanisms, but the Polaris Ranger RZR 900 will enable your child to haul their toys (and siblings) around in a much more realistic manner, but without too much risk of accidents due to some very sensible safety features.
Powered by a rechargeable 12-volt battery, your child can enjoy up to 3 hours of playtime before you need to recharge the battery. This is more than enough to keep your child entertained and you probably won’t need to invest in a replacement battery, which is more than can be said for some of the cheaper models on the market.
The Polaris Ranger RZR 900 has lots of other nice features to keep your child amused for hours as they enjoy the thrill of driving around and let their imaginations run wild in the process.
So, here is my full review of the Polaris Ranger RZR 900. What are its key features?
Polaris Ranger RZR 900 – Main Features
1. Top Speed and Brakes
The Polaris Ranger RZR comes with two speed options: 2.5 mph and 5 mph. The first is put in place for younger kids who might have a problem with controlling it at top speed. The second speed, on the other hand, is in place for older kids.
A stick between the seats allows you to control the speed settings. There’s also the optional lockout mode for beginners set at 5 mph.
There is a realistic gas pedal to set the vehicle in motion, but your child won’t have to worry about co-ordinating the release of the gas pedal with pressing down on a separate brake pedal. Instead, there is an automatic braking system that kicks in when the gas pedal is released.
So, your child steps on the gas pedal to go and simply releases it to cause the vehicle to brake and come to a stop.
The auto-braking system is not only useful for simplicity, it is also a great safety feature.
Another very welcome feature on the RZR 900 vehicle is the reverse gear.
There are lots of “go/stop” models on the market that don’t come with a reversing option, and this can be a real pain for parents. You really don’t want to have to keep getting up and rescuing your child from the corner that they have ended up in. I can assure you that you will be mightily glad that you invested in a vehicle that comes with a reverse gear!
2. Driver Age & Weight Limit
The recommended age range for the Polaris Ranger RZR 900 is between 3 and 8 years. Bear in mind that this is simply a recommendation and you are probably in the best position to know if your child is ready for one of these vehicles.
One limit that must be complied with strictly is the maximum weight capacity, which is capped at 130 pounds. If you want this vehicle to last, and if you want to ensure that your child is safe and that the product warranty is preserved, you will have to keep to this weight limit.
The Polaris Ranger RZR also has room for a passenger. Both the driver and passenger have the benefit of adjustable bucket seats to ensure that they are able to remain comfortable and safe whilst operating the vehicle as they grow. Just keep in mind that the weight capacity is total weight capacity not individual occupant capacity.
3. Other Exciting Features
The whole point of getting an electric ride on car for your child is for them to have fun not just from the simple act of driving, but also to be able to explore and play imaginatively. So, how does that plan fit in here?
Many similar products come with pretty small storage areas that restrict the amount and size of items that can be carried around. The Polaris Ranger RZR 900, however, comes with a very generous cargo storage area.
A tailgate would have been a nice feature, but its not a deal breaker. The vehicle is pretty low to the ground and so its very easy to access the storage area without a tailgate.
Talking of exciting, the internal design of this rugged baby is made to appear realistic and appeal to your kid. You’ll find everything from shoulder straps to cup holders to an off-road windshield.
4. Tires and Traction
All terrain vehicles need good tires.
The tires on the RZR 900 are made of hard plastic, but are fitted with Super traction wheels for grass, dirt, gravel or hard surfaces. They are never going to perform as well as rubber pneumatic tires, but then again you won’t have to worry about constantly having to fix punctures.
The traction is pretty good on the types of terrain that are listed above. Just don’t let your child get too carried away though. This vehicle is not well suited to very wet muddy conditions or very steep hills. Stick to grass, gravel and dirt tracks and they will be just fine.

Polaris Ranger RZR 900 – My Verdict
The Peg Perego Polaris Ranger RZR 900 is a really nice vehicle for kids aged between about 3 and 8 years and it gets some excellent user reviews.
Your child will love the realistic driving sensation and you will definitely love the reverse gear!
If your child would prefer an XUV-style vehicle that comes very similar features, but which also has a dump bed and tailgate, you should check out the Peg Perego John Deere Gator XUV instead.
